Counselling
There are various types of
counselling available at the project.
Currently the project offers
Eclectic therapeutic counselling from an outside sessional counsellor
who works to the BACP1 code of ethics and guidelines. The counselling
is client-centred and structured to six sessions though these may be
extended where appropriate. This is designed to address underlying
root issues where often the substance misuse is the coping strategy.
Drugs counselling works 1/1 and
comprises a series of brief therapies to address irrational and
destructive behaviours, as well as cues and triggers, using
interventions such as solution-focused and cognitive behavioural work.
The main focus remains on the substance misuse.
Key-Working
Regular 1/1 appointments are made
with the client to work through a client-centred agreed care plan with
several measurable goals laid out. These goals can be both practical
and behavioural. Key-working also involves supervising and monitoring
clients around medical interventions as well as drug screening. The
relationship with the client respects diversity, with current emphasis
on retaining clients in treatment2 as well as working with other cross
cutting issues such as child protection and harm reduction.
